Langston University HISTORY

Langston University (LU) is a historically black university located in Langston, Oklahoma and is the only HBCU in the state of Oklahoma. Langston University is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The school was founded in 1877 and was known as the Oklahoma Colored Agricultural and Normal University.

MISSION OF THE D.J'S MUSIC SITE HBCU CAMPAIGN

Our idea of our campaign is to give back to those HBCU's for being the college and university that they are. D.J's Music Site research and knows that money and scholarships within the HBCU community is becoming very decreased so we would like to help out by better funding and bring more scholarships options for the students who attends these HBCU's. We also want to better the students as well by creating and holding an leadership summit/conference to be held at different HBCU sites which will be lead into a main conference that will be held in an major city for a couple days to come and discuss daily HBCU issues, and how to better and keep our HBCU's going. Talk about more programs on the campuses that don't have any programs and how to get more resources in our colleges and universities. D.J's Music Site wants to fly select students and the HBCU's SGA's to be apart and participate in the conference/summit. We also will have an Alumni selection and gathering at the conference for those who graduated from an HBCU. - Read more here.

Dillard University HISTORY

Dillard University is a historically black liberal arts college in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dillard University was founded in 1930, it is affiliated with the United Church of Christ and the United Methodist Church, the school has an enrollment of approximately 1,249. Dillard University offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degrees in over 35 majors. The history of Dillard University dates back to 1869 and its founding predecessor institutions.

Mississippi Valley State University HISTORY

Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) is a historically black university located in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Mississippi Valley State University
is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The institution, which opened in 1950, was created by the Mississippi Legislature as Mississippi Vocational College. MVSU offers programs in both undergraduate and graduate level. There are 2 colleges: the College of Art & Sciences, the College of Education and Professional studies and a graduate school.

KNOXVILLE COLLEGE HISTORY

Knoxville College is a historically black liberal arts college in Knoxville, Tennessee. Knoxville College was founded in 1875 by the United Presbyterian Church of North America, the school has an enrollment of approximately 100 students, and offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies and an Associate of Arts degree. Knoxville College is a United Negro College Fund member school.

SAINT PAUL'S COLLEGE HISTORY

Saint Paul's College is a private, historically black college which is located in Lawrenceville, Virginia. Saint Paul's College opened its doors on September 24, 1888. Saint Paul's College is 125 years old. The college offers undergraduate degrees for traditional college students and distant learning students in the Continuing Studies Program. The school also offers adult education to help assist working adults to gain an undergraduate degree(s). The college has long experienced significant financial difficulties, culminating in a court conflict with its regional accreditator in 2012 and a subsequent plan to close on June 30, 2013 for temporary until plans are worked on to if they could reopen.

Today, D.J's Music Site CEO/Senior Editor DJ Jr. announced that D.J's Music Site will bring back it's monthly HBCU of the Month program to honor an Historically Black College and University but will not have people vote thru poll to pick which school will be honor monthly. The D.J's Music Site staff will hand pick to select schools by month. He also announced that they have already selected 6 HBCUs to be honor for all 6 months of the rest of 2013. These schools will be inducted and honor into the D.J's Music Site HBCU Hall of Frame which include their HBCU dictionary with a bio stating their school's history, achievements, programs & goals. The D.J's Music Site HBCU Campaign was created to help support all HBCUs around the United States. The campaign is plan to design to gather people as donor to donate to help HBCUs with more money to build more scholarships, beautify their campuses, fund programs and to help create an leadership conference to bring current HBCUs students together to discuss HBCU issues and gain more leadership as for being an HBCU student.

The HBCU Campaign is currently looking for volunteers (people who interested in helping this campaign to be an success), grant writers, mentors, donors, sponsors. There is a box underneath where you can state where you want your donation to be apart of (Funding an scholarship, program or the leadership conference or help to beautify a campuses). The D.J's Music Site HBCU Campaign is a program started by D.J's Music Site to recognize and honor all HBCU's in the United States by including an writing about their achievements, goals, and programs along with a Bio of the school's history. November 2012 HBCU: Philander Smith College

Philander Smith College is a private funded, historically black college, four -year liberal arts career oriented institution supported by the General Board of Higher Education and a ministry of the United Methodist Church. Philander Smith student body current enrolls 750 students.

Philander Smith College was founded in 1877 under the name of Walden Seminary as a means of providing education opportunities for freed slaves west of the Mississippi River. The school was renamed Philander Smith College in 1882 to recognize the financial contributions of Adeline Smith, the widow of Philander Smith. The college was chartered as a four-year college in 1883 and conferred its first bachelors degree in 1888. In 1993, it merged to asserts of the George R. Smith College in Sedalia, Missouri, which burned down in 1925. In 1943, Philander Smith was accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.


Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough became the 12th president at the age of 37 in 2004. At that time, he was dubbed the first college president of the hip-hop generation, and was the youngest HBCU president and one of the youngest college presidents in the nation. Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough left Philander after the spring academic semester to become president of Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Johnny M. Moore is now the 13th president of Philander Smith.

Philander Smith is home of the green and white Panthers. The athletic department is apart of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Mens sports includes; basketball and Track & Field, and woman's sports include; basketball, cheer leading, track & field & volleyball. On February 12, 1989, Philander Smith ended the longest home-court winning streak in NCAA Division 111 woman's baseball history with a 92-89 victory over Rust College of Holy Springs, Mississippi


Other notables are: Philander Smith is known for their "Bless The Mic" Lecture Series. The Bless The Mic Lecture Series is a comtempory spin on the traditional presidents Lecture Series. These events, held on hundreds of campuses across the country, have been a way to stimulate the intellectual discourse on the campus. Even today, these series seek to bring in noted scholars, authors, political, and pubic intellectuals to expose not only the campus community to their ideas and concepts, but the broader community in which the institution resides

The D.J's Music Site HBCU Campaign is a program started by D.J's Music Site to recognize and honor all HBCU's in the United States by including an writing about their achievements, goals, and programs along with a Bio of the school's history. September 2012 Pick Edition: The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Pine Bluff, Arkansas - Flagship of the Delta.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is a historically black university located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The University UAPB_Lion.gifwas founded in 1873 as the oldest HBCU and the second oldest public institution in the state of Arkansas. UAPB is a member school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

In 1873, the university was founded as a land - grant college under the 1890 amendments to Morrill Land - Grant Colleges Act, which required states which did not open their land- grant university to all races to establish a separate land - grant university for each race. The school served it's ties with the University of Arkansas and became Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical & Normal (AM&N) College in 1927; then it moved to it's current campus location in 1929. The school rejoin what is now the University of Arkansas system in 1972.

Since 1988, the University has gained recognition as a leading institution in aquaculture studies, offering the state's only comprehensive program in this field, and supporting a growing regional industry throughout the Mid-South.

As home of the black and gold, Golden Lions. UAPB's sports teams have participated in NCAA Division 1 in the SWAC (Southwestern Athlete Conference) since rejoining the conference 1988. In the 2009-2012 school year, for the first time in school history, the woman's soccer team won the SWAC tournament and made it to the NCAA tournament. Also, the men's basketball team received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as champions of the SWAC conference.

UAPB lost their Chancellor for over 20 years in May. Chancellor Lawrence A. Davis decided to retired after an audit came through and fired 4 employees from the University. There were no criminal charged filed. Dr. Calvin Johnson was selected as Interim Chancellor until a new Chancellor is placed in 12 month.

UAPB is also well known for their outstanding band program. The band was selected to participate in the United States Inaugural Parade of our first black President, Barack Obama.  Their band is known as the Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South (M4) and is under the leadership of Mr. John R. Graham.

Other notables are the 2012-2013 student officers and queens. This year's elected officiers cabinet consist of: SGA President, Obumneme Nwankwo ('13), SGA Vice President, Carlton Brewer, SGA Secretary, Shi'Ann Wallace, SGA Treasurer, Elaina Buckner, SGA Treasurer Elect., Justin Smith and SGA Direct. of PR, Brittany McBride. UAPB's 2012-2013 Queen's court consist of; the 84th Miss UAPB, Landy Watley, Miss Senior, TBA, Miss Junior, Alexis Cole, Miss Sophomore, Aliyah Bell, Miss Freshman, Felisha Wilkes.
