Kansas City -- According to source, it's has been reported that a player from the Kansas City Chiefs NFL team has shot and killed his girlfriend before killing himself at the team facility early Saturday, according to police and the Kansas City Chief officials.
The Kansas City Star, citing police, identified the player as 25-year-old linebacker Jovan Belcher. FOXSports.com's Alex Marvez reports that a cheifs source has also confirmed Belcher as the player.
The suicide took place at Arrowhead Stadium, where the Chiefs play, and the player shot himself in front of a couple of coaches, according to police. The Kansas City Star said the player was 25 years old.
According to sources, the stadium was cordoned off as players started arriving and police told them one of their teammates had shot himself.
The Chiefs are scheduled to host the Caroloina Panthers on Sunday. The NFL has told the Carolina Panthers to continye to travel to Kanasas City as planned to play the game.
The Chiefs released a statement this morning via their website, that read: We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.
