DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will celebrate Women's History Month with a program featuring best-selling author, and former EBONY and JET magazines editor-in-chief, Mitzi Miller, this FREE and open to the public event is to be held on Monday, March 23, at 7 p.m., in the B.N. Duke Auditorium on the campus. Miller will speak from the topic "It's Your Life: Be Present." Miller will hold a book-signing immediately following the program. The event is sponsored by the university's Lyceum Committee.
Miller, a Florida A&M University graduate served as editor-in-chief of EBONY magazine from April 2014 to February 2015. Prior to that, Miller was editor-in-chief of JET magazine, a position she held for three years, beginning in May 2011. With two short years, her vision of revamping the iconic 62-year-old brand was realized with its first and only successful cover-to-cover redesign, new website launch, improved social media presence, and consistent media coverage of buzz-worthy stories featured in its pages. In addition, the transition earned Miller the coveted position of being the only individual other than company founder John H. Johnson, to hold both prestigious editorial positions. After majoring in English at Florida A&M University, Miller began her career at Honey magazine, where she grew from intern to entertainment editor. She later became an associate relationship editor a Jane magazine and the editor-in-chief at SET magazine.
The New York native has co-authored five popular books over the past decade: The Vow: A Novel; The Angry Black Woman's Guide to Life; and the three-title Hotlanta young adult series. Miller's first novel was adapted into Lifetime TV romantic comedy movie, "With This Ring", that premiered in January 2015.
