BATON ROUGE, LA - Southern University's Office of Career Service received a $5,000 donation from the Monsanto Company. The donation was made Monday during a visit with Acting Chancellor Flandus McClinton.
Monsanto Company is a publicly traded American multinational agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology corporation headquartered in the Greater St. Louis area in Missouri. It is a leading producer of genetically engineered (GE) seed an d of the herbicide glyphosate, which markets under the Roundup brand.
Orin Blouin, with Monsanto's Luling, La., plant, SU alum Courtney Alexander, cost analyst at the Luling plant and Career Service Director Tamara Montgomery was all involved with the donation.
"The money will fund professional development and leadership events that occur throughout each semester," said Montgomery.
Southern currently has a student, whose interning at Monsanto's site in Luling, Chidinma Imediegwu. Imediegwu is a senior mechanical engineering major.
