Well if it existed today, Ariana Grande would probably have no problem being at the top of the countdown with her song "Problem" featuring Iggy Azalea. And the network is reviving the cancelled show in honor of Grande.
The network announced that it will air a one day only 30-minute special on July 2 at 7 pm ET/PT that will be renamed Total Ariana Live. The singer will get a chance to perform her song "Problem" in front of a live studio audience holed up in MTV's Time Square studio.
During the special, which will be hosted by MTV News' Sway Calloway, Grande will also debut her upcoming single, "Break Free" and will test her hip-hop knowledge in a game called "Hip-hop Mix Up."
"It's a huge honor to be able to bring back a show like 'TRL,' I used to love watching it growing up. Can't wait to celebrate with my loves in Times Square. Might have some surprises too," Grande said in a statement.
Grande plans to make a special announcement during the show. No word yet what this announcement is. Maybe the release date for her follow-up to her 2013 debut, Yours Truly?
The original TRL ran from 1998-2008 and was originally hosted by Carson Daly, before Damien Fahey and others took over.
