Congratulations to Chicago's Jackie Robinson West Little League baseball team from the HBCU Campaign team as they're advancing to the Little League World Series after an 12-7 victory against New Albany, Indiana, in the Great Lakes Region championship game this past weekend in Indiana.
The Little League team became the first all-black team from Chicago to reach the Little League World Series in three decades. The last Chicago team to qualify for the World Series was West in 1983. That team finished fifth overall.
Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn to declare Saturday as "Jackie Robinson West Little League Championship Day" in the state after the victory.
The boy will play this Thursday (opening round) @ 3pm at the championship in Williamsport, Pa.
This is something MAJOR great for the black community, especially Chicago. Tells you there are kids who believe in themselves, doing positive things and not killing one another.
The HBCU Campaign wishes the kids, coaches and parents safe travels to PA and the BEST of luck in the opening round of the championship!
